Our Attorneys

Brendan T. Canty received his law degree from Quinnipiac University  School of Law, after graduating from Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts. Prior to attending law school, he was employed by the Home Insurance Group and Liberty Mutual Insurance Company as a claims adjuster and a supervisor in the workers' compensation claims unit. He is licensed to practice law in Connecticut and Utah as well as the United District Courts in the federal courts of both states. In 1994, he was appointed by Governor Weicker to the Licensing and Disciplinary Board for Chiropractic Physicians.         
     Brendan Canty is a member of the Connecticut Bar Association, the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association, and the Norwalk Exchange Club, where he was the former treasurer. He is the Safety Director of the Milford National Lou Gehrig Little League as well as a founder of the Earl C. Baker Memorial Fund, and a member of the Milford Elk's Lodge Club. Brendan Canty is also active in coaching and managing his son, Brendan's baseball and basketball teams.

Michael R. Kerin received his law degree from Quinnipiac University School of Law, Summa Cum Laude, after receiving his M.A. in English from Middlebury College in Middlebury, VT, his M.F.A. in creative writing from American University, in Washington, D.C. and his B.A. in English from Vassar College, in Poughkeepsie, NY.
     He is a long standing member of the American Trial Lawyers Association, the Connecticut Bar Association, and the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association. He is also a member of the Workers Compensation Specialization Committee. 
     Locally, Michael Kerin is on the Board of Directors of the Milford Red Cross, as well as a member of the Milford Road Runners, and the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary in Milford. He is a dedicated long distance endurance athlete who has competed in several Ironman triathlons, and has been honored to race on the United States Duathlon team at the World Championships in 2003, 2004, and 2006. He is also the proud father of a son, Caelan, and a daughter, Michaela.

Robert J. Scigliampaglia, received his law degree from Pace University School of Law in 1991, where he was the Casenote and Comment Editor for the Pace University Yearbook of Law. He is also a graduate of the University of Connecticut, from which he received a Bachelor's of Arts in Political Science, Cum Laude, in 1988. He is admitted to practice law in Connecticut, New York, Pennsylvania, and the District of Columbia. He is a board certified workers' compensation specialist, who is also a member of the American Bar Association and the Connecticut Bar Association. His reported cases include: Kuehl v. Z-Loda Systems Engineering, Inc., 265 Conn 525 (2003); Dorchinsky v. Winsor Co., 90 Conn. App. 557 (2003).

The CBA's Workers' Compensation Certification Program

The Workers' Compensation Section of the Connecticut Bar Association created the Workers'’ Compensation Certification Program to help the public to identify attorneys who are competent, experienced, and skilled in the area of workers’ compensation law and to raise the level of practice in this area of the law.

The Legal Specialization Screening Committee and the Rules Committee of the Superior Court have approved the CBA’s certification program. This approval process insures that our program has met the court's strict standards.

Attorneys who have attained the designation "Board Certified Workers' Compensation Specialist" have satisfied the following requirements:

  1. demonstrated that no less than twenty-five percent of their total practice has been in the area of workers’ compensation law;
  2. engaged in the practice of law in Connecticut for at least 5 years and been a member in good standing of each bar in which the attorney is admitted;
  3. maintained a malpractice policy with minimum limits of $300,000 per occurrence;
  4. have a satisfactory disciplinary and malpractice history;
  5. participated in a minimum of thirty-six hours of continuing legal education activities in the area of workers’ compensation law in the three years prior to filing the application;
  6. have a minimum of five references from other attorneys knowledgeable regarding the applicant’s practice and competence; and
  7. have passed a one-day written examination.

 Kerin & Canty, PC handles a significant number of cases which are referrals from attorneys that do not practice Workers' Compensation cases, or who do not practice in the State of Connecticut.
